Lost Valley Hike

Saturday was a nice day here in the Ozarks. We had decided early in the week to make the most of it and spend the day outdoors. In the morning I ran the 5K Race for the Cure and had a great time. I had no goals for this race other than to run the entire thing and enjoy the cause. And I did both! After the race we packed up the truck with lunch and hiking boots and headed south to the Buffalo River. David had heard about the Lost Valley Trail from a friend. It is about a three mile round trip hike that ends at a cave and inside the cave is a waterfall. I love waterfalls so I was game (even after the 5K). David decided he wasn't going to carry Ryan in the backpack carrier and all I can say is our little man was a trooper! He walked almost the entire thing and loved every minute of it.

The start:And he's off: The trail started out flat...then we got into a lot of this:
There was no stopping that boy:
This is where the waterfall eventually comes out:At the entrance of the cave...not an easy task getting up there:Ryan and I opted to stay at the entrance while David made his way into the cave to view the waterfall. When he came out he said we made a good choice! It was pitch black (except for the flashlights) and cramped, and a bat flew at his face. But he enjoyed it:
This was the view Ryan and I enjoyed while David ventured in...amazing:
Heading back:We spent the rest of the afternoon at the Buffalo River. David fished, I read a book, and Ryan threw rocks. A fun day was had by all!
